KINSHASA – Échos du Silence explores the history surrounding human remains from the Congo that have been held in Belgium since the colonial period, and addresses issues relating to provenance, restitution, the transfer of knowledge and the dignity of the dead.

Drawing on testimonies from researchers, artists, historians and members of the communities concerned, the film explores the historical, cultural and spiritual dimensions of this issue.

The film also examines how Congolese communities can reconnect with their history, their ancestors and their cultural practices, within the current debate on restitution and the colonial past.
