BRUSSELS/THE HAGUE - Did DPG Media, bpost and newspaper distributor PPP play under a hat for bringing in and distributing the hundreds of millions of public support? Where exactly do the millions of euros of public money for investigative journalism end up? A dossier on subsidy flows to the Flemish and Dutch media.

There has been a total lack of transparency about the massive distribution aid in Flanders for years. In the dossier, the cat is put with the milk and everyone looks away from what happens next. House searches at DPG Media as part of the investigation by the Belgian Competition Authority (BMA) make the media sector tremble and also send shock waves to politicians.

In the Netherlands, on the other hand, there was euphoria when millions of euros of public money suddenly became available for investigative journalism. However, there too, questions arose as to whether that money is getting to where it is most needed.
