BERLIN – Twenty European journalists took a week-long training programme to gain a practical understanding of the tools and insights needed to report on climate neutrality and the energy transition. The Summer Academy, organised by Clean Energy Wire (CLEW) — which has covered all aspects of energy and climate for a decade — aimed to equip European journalists with the skills needed to tell the story of our time.

To competently report on the climate crisis and Europe's energy transition as a key solution, CLEW equipped participants with the skills and knowledge to identify and report on relevant issues and actors, and reach all types of audience.

CLEW draws on its expertise in fact-checking, handling disinformation and cross-border collaboration.

The training took place in Berlin from 1 to 8 September 2024.

The participants were offered “an open space for knowledge sharing and skill building, debates and exchanges with inspired like-minded journalists, supported by a cross-border organisation that truly understands the value of mentoring and networking”, reads a participant’s evaluation. Their network has already proven to be sustainable: the participants kept in contact, collaborated, shared opportunities and met again on different occasions.
