BRUSSELS - In June 2015 Journalismfund.eu launched a call for a new grant programme focused on Freedom of Expression in collaboration with the ECPMF. 18 journalists or teams of journalists have applied for a so-called FoX grant.

The FoX grant application round was closed on Tuesday 15 September 2015. By the time the deadline passed, 18 proposals had been submitted. The journalists involved come from thirteen different countries all across the continent, and the total amount applied for is €72,007. Applicants include freelancers, staff journalists and academics.

Three projects were submitted by Romanian journalists. Montenegro, Spain and Russia each had two journalists submit a proposal. The other countries are Turkey, Serbia, the Netherlands, the UK, Finland, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo and Croatia.

The FoX grant wants to enable journalists or teams of journalists to document and expose cases where media freedom has been violated, or where journalists have been prevented from doing their jobs by censorship or intimidation. A two-member jury will now assess all 18 applications and decide which projects get allocated (part of) the €10,000 research grant.
