PARIS - Reporters d’Espoirs has launched a training programme designed to strengthen French journalists’ capacity to report on biodiversity and environmental issues. The project combines a nationwide “Biodiversity Tour” across 15 regional newsrooms and journalism schools in France with an online MOOC dedicated to biodiversity journalism.

Over a two-year period, journalists, journalism students and newsroom teams participate in practical training sessions led by journalist-trainers and scientific experts. The programme provides concrete tools, methodological guidance and direct access to scientific expertise, helping participants produce more rigorous, impactful and evidence-based environmental reporting. The online MOOC, developed with journalism educators, biodiversity researchers and experienced science journalists, complement these in-person trainings and remain available as a long-term resource for the profession.

The tentative timeline begins in January 2026 with sessions in Marseille and Nice, followed by Strasbourg in February 2026, Paris in March 2026 and Tours in April 2026. Additional stages across France are currently being finalised and will continue through 2026 and 2027.

  • Scientists : Philippe Grandcolas (CNRS), Denis Couvet (FRB), Sylvie Massemin (IPHC)…
  • Journalists : Marianne Enault, Cyrille Frank, Pierre Girard…
  • Coordination team : Floriane Vidal, Gilles Vanderpooten
