PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Through this project, the media outlet introduced a system for automatically generating audio versions of its written news articles using (AI) and (TTS) technology. The audio versions are integrated into both the website and the mobile app, allowing readers to listen to the news. The project is being piloted in a local context, with clear potential for nationwide expansion. Additionally, the team worked on adapting and optimizing the technology for the Macedonian language, developing a model that can also serve as a digital product for other newsrooms across the country.
GOALS
The project aims to improve access to information for vulnerable and marginalized groups through the use of audio versions of news generated with the help of artificial intelligence. Particular focus is placed on people with visual impairments, elderly citizens, as well as those who, due to the nature of their daily activities, cannot regularly read the news. With the ability to listen to the news with just one click, the project enables safe access to information while driving, jogging, doing household chores, or performing other activities, without the need for direct visual contact with a screen.
Additionally, it aims to demonstrate the practical benefits of applying AI in local journalism and to encourage other media outlets in the region to explore such technologies. The project also contributes to the development of a digital product adapted for the Macedonian language, which can be offered to other newsrooms in the country.
