NELSPRUIT - As part of the Enabling Services Grant Programme for Environmental Journalism, Journalismfund.eu supports Oxpeckers for a project aiming at building the capacities of five environmental data journalists based in Europe.

Within the scope of the project, Oxpeckers delivered its first training on March 11, 2022 bringing journalists, mentors from Africa and Asia and Oxpeckers’ team together to learn about the experiences of one another in data journalism and the challenges associated with it. Oxpeckers introduced the #WildEye tool through an in-depth presentation: #WildEye is a digital tool that maps and tracks data on illegal wildlife trade and other environmental crimes around the world. The #WildEye Europe tool has built a unique data set of more than 500 incidents on seizures, arrests, court cases and convictions, and an ongoing dossier of related data- assisted investigations.
